Phillies 2018 Record: 62-48
1st Place in NL East, 1.5 games ahead of 2nd place Braves
6-4 in their last 10 games

It's Alumni Weekend, and Phillies fans celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2008 championship while the 2018 team gives more and more reasons to believe there's a chance to celebrate in a truly special way in a few months. For now, let's just enjoy a 4-game winning streak and a 1.5 game lead in the division.

This week's notes:

Offensively, Rhys Hoskins is starting to take over the leader board. He is quietly having a fine, fine season. His OPS is over .900, and he's on pace for 32 homers and 106 RBI.

The very top line is a bit concerning, though. The Phillies best average on the team is .275. With players like Herrera and Hernandez on this team, that number should be higher. Let's hope Odubel gets on one of his hot streaks soon, and we could see that average jump really quickly.

As for Cesar Hernandez, this from Corey Seidman:

Hernandez has hit .154 over his last dozen games and .227/.336/.268 since July 1. He hasn't looked the same since taking a painful foul ball off the foot in Pittsburgh on July 6. He, too, could be a candidate to sit Sunday.

Cesar Hernandez needs to be better. There's no other way to put it. His .369 On-Base Percentage is nice, but he is hitting .262 with just 14 steals. And 101 strikeouts is way too much for a speed guy. But we can also think about it this way. What if Cesar starts to hit?

On the pitching side, did you realize Vince Velasquez has a 3.83 ERA on the season? For those of you wondering how the heck is this team in 1st place, Vince Velasquez might be the answer. In his last 6 starts, he is 2-1 with a 1.39 ERA. Are we perhaps seeing the pitcher we all dreamed he would be?

Put it together and the Phillies have four starters with ERA's under four: Nola (2.35), Arrieta (3.32), Eflin (3.61), and Velasquez (3.83).

I think I will leave it with that.

Here's your leader board for the first place Phils after game number 110!
