Phillies March/April Storyline

The 2019 Phillies offseason played out in (albeit long) storybook fashion and so did the start of the regular season. With excitement about the Phils and Bryce Harper at a fever pitch, the Phillies won their first four games, the offense was on fire, and Harper was earning his money. Then, the Phillies lost their first game in difficult fashion to the Nationals, and after their 4-0 start they lost 12 of their next 21 games. After scoring 8.2 runs per game in their first six games, they scored just 2.5 in their next six.

Aaron Nola struggled and Jake Arrieta excelled; Nick Pivetta was demoted to the minors and Jerad Eickhoff replaced him admirably; the bullpen had its ups and downs.

The Phillies did not have the best March/April, but they went 13-8 against division foes and held a 1 game lead at the end of April. We'll take it.
