Phillies 2016 Record: 64-80

Question: Who leads the Phillies in extra-base hits this season?

Answer: It’s Freddy Galvis.

Now that is something I never expected to write. But this isn’t exactly welcome news, because it shows just how ineffective Maikel Franco has been this season. He has struggled so mightily that his name only appears on this leaderboard once, and he is in serious danger of losing that position with just one homer more than Ryan Howard and four more than Galvis and Joseph.

Odubel Herrera could also see his name mostly vanish from the list. He only has a 7 walk lead over red hot Cesar Hernandez and leads him by 4 steals.

Boy, Herrera and Maikel Franco sure have been colossal disappointments in the second half.

On the bright, there is this:

And they really needed that type of pitching with the offense already beginning their offseason.

With Nola, Eflin, and Velasquez all gone, it looked like September would offer absolutely miserable pitching every night, but that has not been the case. Thompson has improved, Hellickson had a nice start, and Morgan actually looks like a big leaguer.

Anyhow, here are the leaders with just 18 games to go.
